Channing Matthew Tatum, best known as Channing Tatum, is an actor, dancer, producer and model.
Channing Tatum was born in Cullman, Alabama, on April 26, 1980. He began his career as a model and later dedicated himself to the performance arts. He played football, soccer, baseball and practiced martial arts. With an athletic scholarship, he entered the Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia, but lost interest and dropped out. He returned to Tampa, where he had spent most of his adolescence. There he worked all kinds of jobs. According to US Weekly magazine he worked as a dancer in a nightclub striptease, under the name Chan Crawford. In 2010, in an interview with an Australian newspaper, he said he would like to make a film about his experiences as a stripper. Two years later, the film ‘Magic Mike’ would be released.
He has worked for brands like Armani and Abercrombie & Fitch. In 2002 he appeared in ads for Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Later, he signed with a modeling agency in Miami and appeared in Vogue magazine. He has also appeared in campaigns for Nautica, Dolce & Gabbana and American Eagle Outfitters. As a dancer he worked with Ricky Martin in the video for the song ‘She Bangs’. In October 2001 he was chosen as one of the ’50 Most Beautiful Faces’ for Tear Sheet magazine. That same year he signed with the agency Models Beatrice and worked in Italy and Ford Models in New York.
He began his acting career in 2004, after appearing in an episode of CSI: Miami. His first film role was in the school drama ‘Coach Carter’ (2005) alongside Samuel L. Jackson, where he played Jason Lyle, a basketball player from the streets. He also appeared in the music video ‘Hope’ for rapper Twist. The song appeared in the movie. That same year he appeared in action films, drama and romance. At first he was chosen to play Genghis Khan in the film ‘Mongol ‘, but was replaced by actor Tadanobu Asano. In 2006 he was chosen to play Duke in the movie “She’s the Man. ‘
He rose to fame with the movie ‘Step Up’, which gave life to hip-hop dancer Tyler Cage, a young man who, after destroying school Maryland School of Arts, becomes part of the student body. In 2007 he appeared in the action drama ‘Battle in Seattle’, a film about the protest of the World Trade Organization in Seattle 1999. It was directed by Stuart Townsend. Tatum also played Greg in the independent film “The Trap,” directed by Rita Wilson.
In 2008 he played Sergeant Steve Shriver, in the drama ‘Sto-Loss, “about soldiers returning home from the Iraq War. He also made a special appearance in the sequel to Step Up: ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’. He reprised his role as Tyler Cage, cousin of the protagonist. In 2009 he participated in the action drama ‘Fighting’, where he played Shawn MacArthur, a young man, who after arriving in New York with nothing, meets Harvey Boarden, and enters the boxing street circuit. The film was directed by Dito Montiel. That same year he also played the gangster Pretty Boy Floyd in the 1930’s biopic crime and drama, ‘Public Enemies’. His character is killed by FBI agent Melvin Purvis’s (Christian Bale). He also played the role of Captain Duke Hauser in the action adventure film, ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra ‘.
In 2010 Tatum portrayed the role of the soldier John Tyree in the war film, drama and romance, “Dear John,” based on the bestseller by Nicholas Sparks. The movie details how during his leave, John visits his father in California where he meets and falls in love with the main character Savannah. They become murderers whose operations do not go well and are caught in a conspiracy and persecuted by the world’s most dangerous spy. In 2011 he was in the action thriller ‘Indomitable’ (Haywire), in crime ‘Son of No One’ with Al Pacino, in the comedy ‘Cheaters’ and the sequel to GI Joe,’ G.I. Joe 2 ‘. He also appeared in ‘The Stanford Prison Experiment ‘and’ Pinkville ‘(directed by Oliver Stone).
He co-starred with Rachel McAdams in the romantic movie, ‘The Vow’, where he played Leo Collins. Based on true events, it told the story of a married couple, who get into a serious car accident leaving Collon’s wife (Paige) comatose. Upon waking up Paige does not remember her husband and the movie follows him falling in love with her again.
In 2012 the comedy Magic Mike, about the world of male strippers, premiered among others, starring Tatum and Matthew McConaughey. On February 6, 2015, the movie ‘Jupiter Ascending’, premiered in which Tatum stars alongside Mila Kunis.
