Canadian actor and singer.
Corey Monteith was born on May 11, 1982 in Calgary, Canada. His parents divorced when he was seven and soon after which his brother and him were sent to Victoria to live with their mother. At a young age, Monteith began experimenting with drugs and alcohol.
After attending 12 different schools Monteith finally dropped out at the age of 16. Instead, he went on to become the drummer of a band while working several different jobs. At the age of 19, Monteith’s family staged an intervention leading to his entering a rehab facility. Monteith fell back into his old habits after leaving the facility.
The turning point for Monteith was when he got caught stealing money from a family member. The soon to be actor moved to Nanaimo where he worked as a roofer. There, he lived with a family friend and got sober.
He soon got into the acting world and began finding work. His first acting job was a small part on “Stargate Atlantis.” In 2006, he appeared in the film, “Final Destination 3” and also landed a recurring role on the series, “Kyle XY.”
Monteith’s breakthrough came when he landed a role as a regular on the hit TV show, “Glee.” The process began when he sent in an auction video of himself playing percussion on a few tupperware containers to Ryan Murphy. Murphy followed up with a request of Monteith singing. The actor got the role with his version of “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon.
Monteith portrayed Finn Hudson on the show which debuted in 2008 and became an instant fan favorite. The show featured Finn as a football player/glee cast member. His love interest on the show, Rachel Berry, portrayed by Lea Michelle became his girlfriend in real life. Monteith also found success with a soundtrack from the show and accompanying tour.
In 2013, the actor checked back into rehab and left the program a month after. Unfortunately, Monteith passed away on July 13 of the same year from drugs and alcohol at 31 years old. The world mourned the loss of the TV star and fans were quick to react to the news sending their condolences.
