Don Omar
Birth: February 10, 1978 en Villa Palmeras, Puerto Rico

William Omar Landrón Rivera, stage name Don Omar, is an actor, singer, music producer and Puerto Rican businessman.

He was a part of an institution that was linked to an evangelical pastor for four years and began music in the church. He sang for the first time in 1996 to become part of the Christian production ‘Genesis’. His first public performance took place in a nightclub accompanied by DJ Eliel Lind Osorio. Later, he participated in compilations with other DJs and producers like Noriega Luny Tunes and DJ Eric. He was also a part of Showgirl duo Hector & Tito. It was precisely Hector Delgado, one of the members of this group, who helped him produce his first album as a solo artist.

In 2003 his career took off with ‘The Last Don’, his first studio album. In 2004 he broke the record of a debut album receiving the platinum four times. Both the live version, and the studio version were recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America with this distinction. MTV ranked him as the best new Latino artist. The first single, “Dale Don Dale ‘was the song most used in the academies of reggaeton between that year and 2005. Worldwide, the album has sold more than 3 million copies, and was nominated for the Latin Grammy.

In 2006, his album ‘King of Kings’ is positioned in the top 10 of the US charts. Debuting at number 1 in the lists of American sales and the Billboard Latin Rhythm Radio list with the single ‘Angelito’. In April the following year, ‘King of Kings’ was awarded the Latin Billboard Award (Reggaeton Album of the Year). Billboard called it most successful album in the history of the genre.

He collaborated with Romeo Santos on the topic ‘Ella y yo’ Gilberto Santa Rosa and in his ‘Concert of Love’. The event took place at Madison Square Garden in New York in February 2008. In April of the following year,  ‘iDon’, their third album, goes on sale However, it was not as successful as the previous ones. He continued to work and released ‘iDon 2.0: The Prototype’, which itself succeeded through Internet downloads. This work involved a musical reconciliation with Daddy Yankee, with whom he had a lyrical battle for more than five years. The single ‘Out came the sun’ appears in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV ‘and’ Virtual Diva ‘in the pack extension thereof (‘ Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony ‘). ‘Los Bandoleros’ and ‘count’ were part of the end credits of the movie ‘The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift’.

In November 2010 he launched his next job: ‘Meet the Orphans’. In two days it became platinum. The album features the collaboration of Orfanato Music Group, Plan B, Zion & Lennox and Danny Fornais, among others. The first single is the world famous ‘Danza Kuduro’, in collaboration with Portuguese-French Lucenzo. ‘Danza Kuduro’ was included in the film ‘Fast Five’ and broke the record of YouTube with more than 500 million visits. In May 2012, ‘Meet the Orphans 2: The New Generation” goes on sell, which retells collaborations with’ Meet the Orphans’ and others like Juan Magan or Vinny the Vendito. The single ‘Until the sun rises’ was recognized with the award for Best Urban Song at the Latin Grammys.

In June 2015 ‘The Last Don 2’ went on sale, in which artists of the genre as Plan B, Tego Calderon, Shaggy, Wisin & Yandel and Daddy Yankee (among others) were involved. Univisión chose the song ‘Pura Vida’ as the anthem of the 2015 Copa America.

-In 1996 he participated in the Christian production ‘Genesis’ as part of the duo Teddy & Omar.
-In 2005, Don Omar said he wanted to dedicate an album to the king of kings, Jesus Christ. Hence the name ‘King of Kings’.
-His third album, ‘iDon’ dedicated it to his cousin Cordell Brown.
-In 2008 the rapper Nando Bloom accused of plagiarizing the song ‘Love Sick’ and ‘My Space’ jutno with Wisin & Yandel by using the original chorus. After pay her a sum to Bloom, it dropped the charges.
-He has 4 children with journalist Jackie Guerrido. They divorced in 2011 which caused a scandal because of his past as an evangelical altar boy in Puerto Rico.
-He has a foundation to help children with autism in Puerto Rico.
