Dwyane Tyrone Wade, Jr., known as Dwyane Wade, is an American basketball player who is part of the Miami Heat basketball team of the NBA.
Dwyane Wade was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on 17 January 1982. He started playing in high school. Because of his qualifications, only three universities made him offers: Marquette, Illinois State and DePaul. He chose Marquette University in Milwaukee. Although he was considered a sophomore, his first real season was in 2001-2002. In his two years at Marquette, he became one of the best in its history, which corroborates his 1,281 points and averaged 19.7 points (second in the ranking ppg). He was also the player elected to the highest office in the NBA draft (5th). In February 2007, three and a half years after his last game at the university, the University of Marquette retired his jersey at halftime of the Golden Eagles against Providence game. This represented an exception since the institution requires that athletes are graduates to do so.
In 2003 he was selected by the Miami Heat in the NBA draft. With a positive balance to the season, he ended up being chosen in the Best Quintet of Rookies with players like Carmelo Anthony and Lebraun James. The arrival of Shaquille O’Neal to the team next season would influence the game greatly. Dwyane Wade was elected in the 2nd All-NBA Team and the 2nd Defensive Quintet. In Miami, he beat the record of points and free throws made in a season (however, both would be surpassed a year later). Since 1979, both Wade and Allen Iverson and LeBron James are the only ones in the top 10 in points and assists. In the 2005-2006 season, he established himself as one of the stars of the NBA, he was elected for the second consecutive year to play the All-Star Game, the first time in his career as a starter. In addition, he became the first player in team history to score 40 consecutive points in two games and re-elected in the 2nd All-NBA Team.
He participated for the first time in the NBA Finals in 2006. The team got its first ring and Wade became the fifth youngest player in history to get the MVP award of the finals, he also had the third best average points (34.7). In the 2006-07 season he missed 31 games due to injury. He was elected to his third All-Star and repeated title in the Skills Competition. He was included in the 2nd All-NBA Team. At the end of the season, he was operated on the left shoulder and left knee, so qualifying was lost for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. In November 2008, in the third game of the season, he reached 10,000 career points with a 95-87 victory against the Chicago Bulls.
During the preseason, the Miami-Dade commissioners voted to rename County ‘Miami-Wade County’ for a week from July 1-7 in 2010 in honor of the player to try to convince him to stay on the team. Before starting the 2012-13 season, he underwent surgery for an injury to his left knee. In July 2014, he renewed his contract with the Miami Heat. After failing to qualify for playoffs that season, in June 2015 he declared himself a free agent, rejecting a new contract of 16 million dollars. After several days of negotiations, he renewed for a year and 20 million.
