Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, better known as Emma Watson, is an actress, model and French nationalized British philanthropist. One of her best known roles is that of Hermione Granger in the series of films based on the Harry Potter books.
Emma Watson started acting when she was little, but not professionally. In the 2000s they began casting calls for ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the film adaptation of the first installment of the saga written by JK Rowling. Directors were concerned about finding the right actors for the lead roles: Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Emma Watson was presented to auditions through her drama teacher at his school in Oxford and producers were impressed by his attitude and confidence. Her first non ‘Harry Potter’ role was in the TV movie ‘Ballet Shoes’, an adaptation of the novel by British author Noel Streatfield released in 2007. In 2008 she participated in the animated feature “The Tale of Despereaux’ . In 2010, she appeared in the video for the song ‘Say You Do not Want It’, by the band One Night Only. This happened after meeting the singer George Craig in a Burberry campaign.
His first job after finishing the series ‘Harry Potter’ was a role in the movie ‘My Week With Marilyn’, in 2011. The following year the film ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’, starring actress was launched. In March 2012, she confirmed that he would have a leading role in the film ‘The Bling Ring’, Sofia Coppola. Her character, Nicki, is based on Alexis Neiers, one of the members of the royal gang. The film opened the category Of Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival 2013. Also in 2012, she was selected for the role of Ila in the biblical epic-‘Noah’ film (Darren Aronofsky). Emma Watson also works with philanthropic causes different level. She has posed for British artist Mark Demsteader for a collection of 30 paintings made with different techniques (gouache, charcoal, ink and oil). She asked that 10% of the profits from the sale of the paintings will be donated to CAMFED International, an NGO (Non Governmental Organization) British working in rural Africa to help girls out of school resources. In 2013, she posed for the campaign ‘Natural Beauty’, the American photographer James Houston, with the aim of raising funds for Global Green USA, an NGO focused on sustainability and environmental conservation. On September 20, 2014 in New York, before the assembly of the United Nations and as Ambassador of Goodwill of UN Women, she gave a speech in which she defended the political, economic and social equality of both sexes.
In May 2014 she graduated in English Literature at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
- Her parents, graduates of Oxford British lawyers, Luesby Jaqueline and Chris Watson, divorced when she was 5 years. They lived in Paris and she moved to Oxford with her mother and younger brother (Alex).
