Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Iglesias
Birth: May 8, 1975 en Madrid, España.

Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler, known as Enrique Iglesias, was born in Madrid, Spain on May 8, 1975. He is a Spanish pop singer and composer and the son of Isabel Preysler and singer Julio Iglesias. His parents were married in 1970 but the marriage was annulled on 1979. From this pairing came, Chabeli, Julio Iglesias Jr., and Enrique Iglesias. His mother remarried Marques de Grinon in 1980 and then had their second daughter, Tamara Falco. This matrimony was short lived and her third and more recent marriage was to ex Spanish finance minister, Miguel Boyer, whom she had another daughter with, Ana Boyer.

After his divorce, Julio Iglesias lived with Dutch model Miranda Rijnsburger who was 23 years younger than him. He married her in 2010 in a small church in Marbella, Spain. They had five children: Miguel Alejandro (1997), Rodrigo (1999), twins Cristin and Victoria (2001) and Guillermo (2007).

Enrique Iglesias moved to Miami for family reasons at seven years old. He grew up in the state of Florida and thats how he learned English, his second language, which he has recorded and composed songs in as part of his repertoire. Due to the fame of his parents, Enrique and his siblings got used to the camera flashes, TV camera and microphones real quick. In fact, he arrived at adolescence and completed his studies without a hint to the fact that he would have a dedicated future.

It’s been said that Enrique Iglesias began to prepare for his first CD at 16 years old but no one, not even his family, found out about his intentions, so his announcement of his song to the world was a surprise to everyone.

Enrique Iglesias always made it really clear that he didn’t want to get ahead because of his last name and he ended up changing his artistic name so as not to allude to his original name. Regardless, it’s clear that this last name helped in the beginning moments, although much later the work of Enrique and his collaborators proved to succeed on their own merits in the second half of the 90s. Proof of this is the experience of his brother, Julio Jose, who also proved lucky in the song world although which much less success than his father and brother.

Iglesias obtained a contract with Discos Bat, a modest Spanish record company who edited his first CD, Enrique Iglesias, debuting on September 1995. Singles like, “Si tu te vas,” “Por amarte,” “Experiencia religiosa,” “Trapecista” and “No llores por me” catapulted the album to unthinkable dimensions for a debut. In a few short weeks his album went gold in Portugal and with time he went on to sell almost 6 million copies world wide. The initial reaction couldn’t have been better and it earned the artist a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Performance.

In 1995 when the Spaniard turned 20 years old he signed a contract with the record company, Fonovisa, property of the Mexican empire, Televisa, sky rocketing his career initially between Spanish speaking countries and the latin diaspora in the U.S.

On January 29, 1997 his second full length album, Vivir, debuted, but not to be outdone, sold almost 5 million copies and plainly confirmed the incipient stardom of Enrique.

That same year Iglesias also realized his first world tour, Vivir which spanned three countries, included 80 concerts and featured performances in front of almost 750,000 people in total. The machine of his career did not rest before editing his third LP, that debuted on September 1, 1998 with the title, Cosas del amor, this time inside the catalog of Polypro Records. In his first CD he discovered the necessary potential to explore his commercial products, overall taking into account that his fame was already extended onto an international scale.

The singer closed the decade with Enrique, a new CD that placed him in the highest selling ranks for half the world; the album was released for sale on November 23, 1999. Months prior, Bailamos, had been edited, a compilation that included the single of the same name, which debuted to extraordinary international success. That same year he signed with the record company, Interscope and created a mix of styles for the English market. In the same year he signed with Universal Music Latino, property of Universal Music to launch his records in Spanish. In 2010 he separated from Interscope and signed to the record company, Universal Republic.

Enrique Iglesias has obtained a good handful of number ones on the U.S. charts, he has conquered a good part of the asian market, is a habitual winner of Grammys, and has recorded in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian. Over 200 gold singles and more than 100 platinum singles adorn his impressive launch on a trajectory, that in his words, has just begun.

He is one of the best selling Spanish speaking artists of all time. He has obtained five singles on the “Billboard Hot 100” “Top Five” including two number twos and he maintains the record for producing 24 number one Spanish singles on the Billboard, “Hot Latin Tracks.” He has also received 13 number one songs on the Billboard, “Dance Charts.” more than any other male artist. In total Iglesias has amassed over 70 number one classifications one of the most successful rankings of Billboard. Billboard has named him the King of Latin Pop and the King of Dance.

In 2000, Enrique presented his fans with Escape, a new work less melodic than his prior works. He also finished the rounds for Erase una vez en Mexico, his cinematographic debut under the leadership of Robert Rodriguez.

On January 29, 2014, Iglesias announced the title of his 12th album, titled, Sex and Love.
