Eric Marlon Bishop, better known as Jamie Foxx an actor, comedian and R&B singer from the US, who has won an Oscar Academy Award for his role on ‘Ray’.
He made his cinema debut in 1992 with ‘Toys’, a comedy. In 1994 he released the album ‘Peep this’ and, in 1999, he sang all the songs from the movie ‘Any Given Sunday’, an Oliver Stone movie where he had his first dramatic role. Later on, he portrayed Max Durocher, a cab driver, in ‘Collateral’, together with Tom Cruise. He got his first nomination for an Oscar Academy Award (Best Supporting Actor) for his interpretation.
In 2004 he collaborated with Kanye West on the song ‘Slow Jamz’, by Twista. The song reached the charts’ first positions in the United States and in the United Kingdom. That year he also portrayed Ray Charles in ‘Ray’, the singer’s biopic. His portrayal earned him an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Actor. In 2005 he was invited to become a member of the American Academy of Art and Sciences. He also released his second studio album: ‘Unpredictable’. T was a hit and stayed on top of the charts for various weeks. Jamie Foxx became the fourth singer to win an Oscar and get a No. 1 in the States (the other three were Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand).
In the 2006 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, he won for Best duet/Collaboration for ‘Gold Digger’ with Kanye West. That year he also got four Grammy nominations. Afterwards, he starred in the movies ‘Jarhead’, ‘Miami Vice’ and ‘Dreamgirls’, all box office hits that elevated his acting status. In 2007 he had the leading role in the movie ‘The Kingdom’, sharing credits with Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner and Ashraf Barhom. Furthermore, he got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2008 he released his third album, ‘Intuition’, which had Kanye West, T.I., Ne-Yo and T-Pain as collaborators. In the video for the song ‘Blame It’, directed by Hype Williams, Forest Whitaker, Samuel L. Jackson, Ron Howard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Quincy Jones, among others, all make cameos. In 2009 he portrayed the main character on the movie ‘The Soloist’ and worked with Gerard Butler in the thriller ‘Law Abiding Citizen’. That same year, Jamie Foxx, a self-declared fan of country music, performed the George Strait song ‘You Look so Good In Love’ at the George Strait Artist of the Decade All-Star Concert. He also hosted the BET Awards. The ceremony payed tribute to Michael Jackson, who had died three days before it was held. Apart from performing ‘Blame It’ with T-Pain, and ‘She Got Her Own’ with Ne-Yo and Fabulous, he kicked off the gala with ‘Beat It’ and put an end to it with ‘I’ll Be There’, by the Jackson 5, again with Ne-Yo.
In 2010 he released ‘Best Night Of My Life’, his fourth album. A year later he lent his voice to Nico, a canary from the animation movie ‘Rio’. That summer he got involved as a producer in Fox’s ‘In the Flow with Affion Crockett’. In 2012 he had the leading role on ‘Django Unchained’, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. He shared credits with Kerry Washington (his ‘Ray’ co-star), Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCarpio and Samuel L. Jackson. In 2013 Jamie Foxx became President James Sawyer in ‘White House Down’, together with Channing Tatum. One year after that, he portrayed Electro, the villain on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, and co-starred in ‘Annie’ with Quvenzhané Wallis. Moreover, director Oliver Stone confirmed Foxx would be Martin Luther King in a biopic produced by Steven Spielberg.
In May 2015, the artist released his fifth studio album: ‘Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses’. The album debuted on top of the hip-hop and R&B lists and number 10 on Billboard’s Top 200. Furthermore, his voice can be heard on the chorus for ‘Focus’, Arian Grande’s single.
