Harry Potter Version of Pokemon GO In The Works!

Harry Potter Version of Pokemon GO In The Works!

Niantic, the company behind the super successful Pokemon GO, has officially announced the creation of a Harry Potter AR game for 2018 in collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  As J.K. Rowling so eloquently put it in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: “You sort of start thinking anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve”.

Now for those of you who don’t know what AR is, it stands for augmented reality, and it allows the mobile game app to become more interactive.  With the release of Pokemon GO in 2016, many Pokemon lovers were able to the use the AR game in virtually any location to catch’em all and play against others at gyms with the built in GPS technology.  It is rumored that the new Harry Potter game will use the same technology as Pokemon GO, however according to the LA Times, Niantic said it will also provide “an opportunity to pioneer all new technology and gameplay mechanics”.

The games official name is “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” and as mentioned by the LA Times, “players will learn spells while exploring real-world locations, encounter legendary beasts and team up with other players to fight powerful enemies. Fans were also teased that the game will include encounters with ‘iconic characters'”.  There is no official release date yet, just the fact that it will be released sometime in the year 2018.  Guess we will have to wait a bit, but if we waited for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida and California, we can wait for the game.  In the meantime we will get back to binge-watching all the movies!
