Everyone’s favorite 90s toy is making a comeback in the US! Bandai America, parent company of Tamagotchi, has announced it will release the childhood toy for its 20th Anniversary this year.
Tamagotchi originally launched in Japan in 1996, and a year later it launched in the US. For those of you who are not familiar with this toy, a Tamagotchi is a little egg-shaped device on a key chain that houses a “pet” of sorts, and you have to make sure to feed it, take care of it, and clean up after it. If not, then the pet dies. Super dramatic right? But don’t worry, the pet is needy and the devices noises and sound will make sure to let you know that your Tamagotchi needs to be tended to.
Bandai America announced that this version of the toy will not be mobile device enable or have an app; it will stay true to the original 1997 design and concept of the toy. The only difference is that this new version will be slightly smaller than the original. It will also come in 6 different colors. The toy is already available for pre-order and hits stores in November 5th. You can purchase it online or you can find it in select Toys R Us stores starting at $14.99.
